BASI Instructor pathway

Coaching Level 2

Pre-requisites
18 yrs of age at start of the course
Completion of Level 1 to TRAINEE status
Valid First Aid Certificate
CRB/Disclosure check

How well do I need to ski to do this course?
Students must be able to carve clean track turns on steep red piste at speed while showing good positive posture and control in both slalom and giant slalom turns prior to attending. Students must be physically fit and will be expected to take part in physically demanding activities.

The Alpine Coach Level 2
Trainee coaches will have mountain environment experience of course setting in slalom, giant slalom and for speed events. The course is very practical with students taking part in a number of activities. Course content covers the following:

  • Course setting for Slalom, Giant slalom and speed events
  • Technique and line in race courses
  • Safety in the workplace
  • Rules of the sport
  • Growth and maturation of adolescents
  • Biomechanics of ski racing
  • Preparation of equipment
  • Fitness and post-ski recovery training
  • Reflection of the coaching process

The course is assessed on skiing ability and the ability to review and plan the coaching process. The coaching assessment takes part in the Licensed stage.

LICENSED STATUS is achieved by completing further logged tasks and an exam with an assessment taking place in the workplace.

Equipment Requirements

  • Slalom and Giant Slalom skis to FIS regulations from the past 5 years
  • Helmet and appropriate slalom protection
  • Running and fitness kit for fitness sessions
  • Basic ski preparation equipment
