International Mountain Safety - Training

  BASI IMS
  4 days
  BASI module

This is a 4 day training course which builds on the BASI Mountain Safety course and is a required module for the BASI Level 4 ISTD qualification. It equips students to lead tours beyond the ski area boundary, and deal with all the hazards which can be encountered while on day tours.

Very little time will be spent revising the BASI Mountain Safety material, so come prepared. The course can contain long days on the hill with big ascents carrying a rucksack. It may be necessary to be on steep, exposed terrain. A typical ascent may be up to 1000m.

By the end of this course, you will have mastered snow and avalanche hazard management, including multiple burial search techniques. You will gain advanced skills in navigation and map work, along with incident management. You’ll learn how to select routes effectively, including executing kick turns and setting a skinning track.
